Building a mobile game studio in Korea is no small feat. But carving out a name in the world's most crowded and demanding gaming market is a completely different challenge. KingKongSoft was born from a simple belief: that the mobile screen is not the end of depth and quality—it is a fresh canvas for creativity and passion. We didn't take shortcuts, nor did we copy proven formulas. Instead, we built our core rendering pipeline from scratch, optimised for every major chipset, and relentlessly polished our combat feel, narrative immersion, and live‑operation design. This small but multidisciplinary team of artists, engineers, and designers—working out of a modest studio in Seoul—spent four years crafting four distinctly original titles. They are not perfect answers, but they are our most honest beginnings—and the strongest statement of KingKongSoft's ambitions for the next decade.
FROM ZOMBIE OBSESSION TO SURVIVAL SENSATION
How a late‑night horror movie marathon gave birth to our most frantic mobile shooter
It all started with a team‑wide addiction to Korean zombie films and a shared belief that mobile devices were still missing a truly visceral horde‑shooter. One weekend, our principal designer sketched a crude prototype where waves of undead rushed toward a lone survivor, and the only defense was a virtual joystick and an auto‑fire button. The first playtest—held on a single phone passed around the office—drew laughter, shouts, and a surprising amount of competitive energy. We knew we had stumbled onto something addictive.
But turning that spark into a polished product was no small feat. Our Seoul studio was still small, juggling multiple projects, and we had no dedicated engine for high‑density AI. We decided to build our own renderer and entity system from scratch, optimising specifically for mobile GPUs. The biggest challenge was maintaining 60 frames per second while rendering over 200 zombies on screen—each with distinct movement and attack patterns. After six weeks of crunch, we had a playable build that ran smoothly on mid‑range devices. Publishers who saw it were stunned by the fluidity and the sheer tension of the gameplay. Today, Plague Zone:Survivors stands as a testament to our belief that intense action can thrive on touchscreens. We added co‑op modes, seasonal events, and a progression system that keeps players grinding for better gear. More importantly, it proved that a small Korean team with big ambitions could compete with global hits—all because we refused to let our hardware limitations kill our vision.
